Navigation marks on shoals and obstructions
When navigating upstream, leave red buoys to the left and green buoys to the right. Avoid yellow and orange buoys, they mark underwater hazards. When navigating downstream remember that the opposite rule applies. For further advice, ask the local duty Lock Keeper.
Yellow buoy at Laleham
Please be aware that there is an underwater hazard on Chertsey Reach at Laleham. The yellow buoy marking it will be in place until further notice.
Kings Lock open at weekends
Please note Kings Lock is now open to boating traffic at weekends from 4pm on a Friday night until 7am on a Monday morning until the lock reopens on 4 March. However there is no public access to the lock island or the campsite as this is still a construction site until the end of the works.
There is a recurring fault on the public power system. The head pedestal hydraulic pump can run on causing it to over heat and the thermal cut out to activate. Only an Environment Agency member of staff is able to re-set it. In the event this occurs out of hours, please call 0800 80 70 60 (24hrs).

- Caution strong stream
- We advise users of all boats not to navigate because the strong flows make it difficult and dangerous.
- Caution stream increasing
- We advise users of all unpowered boats not to navigate and users of powered boats to find a safe mooring. This is because river flows are likely to strengthen and red boards could be displayed very soon and without warning.
- Caution stream decreasing
- We advise users of all unpowered boats not to navigate and users of powered boats to navigate with caution.
